Violet Nuccio Leto passed away unexpectedly on October 31st. She was born in Tampa, the youngest daughter of George and Angelina Fretto Nuccio and was predeceased by her beloved parents and sister, Jenny Gutierrez.
After attending, Sacred Heart Academy, Vi graduated from Jefferson High School, where she was voted "most friendly" in her senior year. As part of a notorious group of wedding crashers called "the bananas" she met the love of her life, Philip Rumore Leto (Fifo). A more than 70 year romance would ensue.. Fifo predeceased Vi in 2021after 64 years of marriage. Vi completed her studies at Tampa Business College and enjoyed a successful career as a bookkeeper for Occidental Petroleum and TECO, where she had a close knit group of friends who shared many lunches and fun escapades.
A proud Sicilian, Vi’s positivity and zest for life, fashion, dancing and especially family and friends radiated to anyone who came in contact with her. She truly was a force, a mentor and a sincere loving friend to so many. She also never hesitated to speak her mind and this lives on through the legacy of her grandchildren. Vi’s next chapter after selling her home of 60 years was to become a part of The Allegro Hyde Park Community where she continued to glow, makes friends and touch the lives of many of the wonderful staff.
She is survived by her sister, Lily Leto, son Philip Leto, III and his wife Beth (whom she loved as a daughter) and loving daughter Beverly Leto Benjamin (former husband Jerry). Vi is also survived by her beloved grandchildren, the apples of her eye, Philip IV, Jay, Elizabeth, Claire, and Mia, who will always cherish the memory of their loving Nana, her bonus grandchild, Angela Alvarez, as well as numerous cousins, nieces and nephews and many friends, whose lives were enriched by having known her.
