Shayna A Teijido's Obituary
Teijido, Shayna Alexsandra, 21 was called by God to become an angel on January 17, 2011. Shayna passed away unexpectedly in Gainesville, Fl. where she was attending Nursing College at the University of Florida. Shayna's home was in Safety Harbor, Fl. She graduated from St. Paul's School in 2003 and Palm Harbor University High School in 2007. She received her International Baccalaureate Diploma from Palm Harbor. Shayna was very active throughout her teen years and participated in various activities. She excelled at karate as a member of Ingram's Karate Tournament Team earning her Ni Dan, 2nd Degree Black Belt and participated in numerous tournaments including a Junior Olympics. In 2007 as a University of Florida Gator and Nursing Student, Shayna dedicated herself to helping others. She worked as a camp counselor at the Elks Youth Camp during her Freshman year which led to continued involvement with children through various service opportunities. Through her college career she was a member of the Sigma Phi Lambda Christian sorority, attended Chapel of the Incarnation - Episcopal Chapel House, worked as a lifeguard at UF's Lake Walburg, Nursing Mentor program, and Alpha Phi Omega Service Fraternity. As an APO brother, Shayna worked on or acted as chairperson on a number of committees. In 2010 she contributed the greatest number of service hours within APO to include assisting at Gainesville Pet Rescue and Noah's Endeavor, a program for children mostly with disabilities to do recreational activities. In 2009 she travelled to Guatemala on a orphanage mission trip dedicated serving the needs of children. Shayna is scheduled to graduate from the UF Nursing College in April 2011 with honors. Her future plans included entering graduate school at UF. She is survived by her mother Debra Tuohy; father Daniel Teijido; 3 aunts and uncles, John and Susan Gardner, Ralph and Linda Egolf and, John and Leann Tuohy; eight cousins, Kyle Tuohy, Shannon Tuohy, Alayna Tuohy, Brielle Tuohy, William Egolf, Laura Egolf, Hunter Gardner, and Tyler Gardner. Her grandparents, John and Marie Tuohy, and Celestino and Pauline Teijido predeceased her. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, January 22, 2 PM at St. Lawrence Catholic Church, located at 5225 North Himes Avenue, Tampa, FL 33614-6623, (813) 875-4040. The family will receive visitors starting at 1:15 pm with service beginning at 2:00 PM. Burial will follow immediately after at Myrtle Hill Memorial Park, 4002 N. 50th St. Tampa, Florida. Pallbearers will be John Gardner, John Tuohy, Ralph Egolf, Kyle Tuohy, and William Egolf. In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be sent to the Shayna Teijido Memorial Gator Nursing Scholarship Fund, Office of Development, University of Florida, P.O. Box 100197, Gainesville, FL 32610. Shayna's instructors, classmates, and friends are encouraged to attend and honor her life and the contributions she made.
