My late father, José Luis Pedroarias ("Chorro"), Pastor, and Nolia were friends since emigrating to the United States from Cuba. They and their family are lifelong, dear friends as am with Nolita, Victor, and their kids. I visited them in Tampa in 2011 when I went to a political conference (Republican, of course).
Pastor picked me up at my hotel with his family and we had a delicious Cuban dinner at one of their favorite family restaurants. I knew Pastor to be a successful businessman so he graciously picked up the check for the entire meal. When he got the bill he exclaimed, "Coño, ¿esto está en moneda Mexicana!?" (Mexican pesos). I cracked up and laughed so hard that tears rolled down my cheeks! Naturally, the whole family followed my reaction and we all had a wonderful time.
I always enjoyed Pastor's humor and I remember how he made my dad laugh too. Later that night he took me on a long driving tour of his beloved Tampa, narrating all the sights. No professional tour guide could have done better.
Rest in eternal peace, Pastor. You brought joy wherever you went.
