Me and my sister met James for the first time through a FaceTime call, and I don’t remember ever not knowing him. It was like we just hit it off. As soon as we got on that call, he cracked a joke the moment we saw him. Instantly, we felt like we had known him for years.
But once we really got to know him over the years, we realized one thing about him: he defined the word selfless. Which leads to one of our many memories with him.
This memory describes James in all of his best qualities—humor, kindness, and supportiveness.
Around 2021, my father found a new job, but there was a problem: it was located up in Ocala, about 1.5 to 2 hours from here. That meant he had to stay in an apartment up there for five days a week. My dad had never been gone that long. The house felt a little more empty and lonely. Me, my mom, and my sister felt blue.
And I guess James had a knack for seeing those emotions—so he took action. He showed up to our house quite a few times in those first couple of weeks, just to cheer us up and share a meal with us. He brightened our spirits and, as you know, provided endless amounts of jokes. In doing so, he helped us ease into the idea that everything would be okay.
That was the moment we knew we had chosen an excellent friend.
And we are certain that everyone knows James was always lending a hand. We are forever grateful for the opportunity that God gave us—to know him and to cherish our time with him.
We love you, James. Forever and always. ❤️
