I could always tell Abuelo had arrived in Baton Rouge when I could hear him taking in all the Lakeside neighborhood trash cans. The instant he stepped in a room, he became the most popular person in that room. I'll remember him for the strongest hand shakes, Spanish quizzes, dressing up as Santa, and Cuban Coffee. One of the best trips I've had the pleasure of making was visiting Abuelo and Abuela in Tampa and hearing him laugh uncontrollably. He was one of the best men I've known and I am lucky to have had him in my life for over 25 years.

I met Mr. Vila in the Spring of 1981 when my best friend started dating his daughter. I joined my friend on a memorable trip to Tampa where I learned about Cuban coffee and much more. What a special man! He loved life and he loved people. He loved a good conversation. When you look at all he accomplished during his lifetime - military veteran and war hero, restaurant owner and operator, long time brewery employee, dance party promoter, and so much more, the rest of us look like slouches. I consider it a great honor to have had the privilege of knowing him for so long. He will be missed by many. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Martha and the rest of Mr. Vila's family.

Our prayers go out to all the Vila family. Both my husband and I worked at the Tampa Brewery with Hector. He was a well liked and much respected man. May he rest in peace and God be with his entire family.

We got to know the Vila's when we replaced their roof. I however, watched them from afar in church before this ever happened. Their pursuance reminded me of true love and their smiled warmed everyone's heart. A true love story for the ages. I will never forget them and am sorry that I was not able to see them in the last few years. I caught a glimpse of Martha at the Life Stations of the Cross which Martha was involved in. Standing in the back row of the church with smiles and tears of joy. I am sorry that I was unable to attend the funeral arrangements. Both of you will always be in our hearts. We are sorry for your loss, but when you have the time to release the pain, look back and enjoy the hearts and memories that Hector made for all of you. You are at peace with the Lord, Hector, and are surrounded by many who have gone with before you. We are so grateful of the opportunity of knowing you.

To Martha, Hector Jr. and Desiree, It is with a heavy heart that we read about Hectors passing. Such a wonderful man who gave us all great memories. He made us all laugh with his jokes and storytelling. Always had a smile on his face and was full of energy. I know if my Mother Ligia was capable of responding she too would be heartbroken over this news and would send her condolences. Hector's kindness to our family will never be forgotten. My heart gets heavier every time one of the Vilas passes away. It reminds me how few are left from such a large family of brothers and sisters whom I miss so much.
