Mr. Guy L. St. Paul's Obituary
ST. PAUL, Guy, L., 84, went to be with the Lord Feb. 21, 2010. Born in Tampa, he later moved to Odessa, FL where he was a member of the First Baptist Church of Odessa. From his youth on he helped formulate many groups dedicated to serving the community and our nation. A graduate of Plant High School, he served in the U. S. Navy during WWII, honorably discharged in 1945, he enrolled at Tampa University in 1945. He was a charter member of many organizations there and in his senior year, the Outstanding College Historian Medal was awarded to him. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Education with a dual certification in Elementary and Secondary Education. From 1950 until 1967, he tutored adults in night school at the old Jefferson High School. At the same time he was a teacher at A.L. Cuesta Elementary School transferring later to V. M. Ybor Elementary School. Working on his masters degree during the summer, he received his degree from University of Mississippi in 1964. While there he was active in several organizations. At this point, he was appointed Dean of Boys at Franklin Jr. High School and then served as principal of V. M. Ybor, Robert E. Lee in Sulfur Springs and lastly, DeSoto Elementary School, retiring after 33 years in 1984. Throughout his adult life Guy was involved with numerous civic and professional organizations and received a number of awards too numerous to mention. For many years he served as master of ceremonies for countless groups and associations and helped found some of them such as the Ybor City Roundtable. In 1968, Guy St. Paul was elected as the Alcalde or Mayor of Ybor City. He also served on three separate occasions as the President of the Alcalde Association. He was much sought after as a guest speaker. His speeches usually dealt with early Tampa history. He was a gifted poet and literary writer. As a result, the Ybor City Optimist Club named him as the recipient of the Outstanding Citizen of Ybor City Award. In 1994, he was elected President of the Ybor City Optimist Club. He is survived by two daughters: Monica Moses ( Ronnie) and Arden Dominey (Samuel), special friend: Nancy Colbert, sisters: Angelina Gano (Elvis), Josephine Gano (Zerney), Maria Siegel (Larry) and grandchildren: Jesse Guy and Luke William Moses and Summer Marie Cooper (Johnathan, Jr.) Funeral services will take place at 10AM on Friday, Feb. 26, 2010 at Boza & Roel Funeral Home, 4730 N. Armenia Ave., Tampa, FL. Interment will follow in Myrtle Hill Memorial Park. A reception will follow after the funeral at the First Baptist Church of Odessa, 1234 Gunn Highway. The family will gather to receive friends on Thursday, Feb. 25, 2010 from 2 to 4PM and 6 to 8PM at the funeral home chapel.
