Gary Lane Jernigan's Obituary
Gary Lane Jernigan, 65, passed away at home in Tampa, Florida, on Saturday, January 21, 2017. He was born in San Francisco, California, on May 15, 1951, to Ira Dee and Katherine Lucretia Jernigan. A well-travelled man, he lived all over the United States and even in France. His free-spirited youth and worldly experiences shaped him, making him a confidante to both family and friends. Devoted to his work, Gary served as division President for over twenty years at Centex. Throughout his time with the company, he was a valuable and gifted asset to his colleagues. Faced with retirement, he chose instead to pursue various entrepreneurial ventures. Spending his life on the golf course was never really an option; leisure to him was creating the next great business deal. Among his various hobbies, Gary loved boating, snow skiing, reading science fiction novels, and playing tennis. Above all of his pursuits, his greatest love in life was his family.
Gary’s legacy lives on through his wife of thirty-eight years, Mary Ann Jernigan; his children, Neile Marie Vance and her husband David, Taylor Makenzye Fichera and her husband Aaron, Aaron Kyle Winterton-Jernigan and his husband Robert; four grandchildren, Jonathan Vance and his wife Sidney, Jonah Vance, Joseph Vance, Sarah Grace Vance, and two great grandchildren, Harper and Hazel Vance. Services and reception will be held Saturday, February 4, 2017, at 2:30 pm at the Restland Funeral Home and Cemetery 13005 Greenville Avenue Dallas, Texas 75243. Memorial contributions may be made in his name to Emancipet. An avid animal lover, Gary understood the power of animal companionship in teaching us about love, acceptance, and happiness.
