Carmen Maria Pelaez's Obituary
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our loving mother Carmen Pelaez. She left us on February 10th at the age of 100 years. She was born in Camaguey, Cuba and came to the United States in 1964. She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Alcides Pelaez. She leaves behind her four sons, Ed, Manuel (Wei-Wei), George (Therese), and Robert (Jeanne); Grandchildren Edward (Kelly), Joseph (Deborah), Daniel (Joanie), Austin (Aisha), Andrew (Alexis), Aubree, Stephanie (Tyler), Andrea, Nathan and Isabella; as well as 9 great grandchildren.
Her life can best be remembered not just by the fact that she lived 100 and a half years, but how she lived each day. She was always active and full of love and energy. She had a deep faith in God and was a parishioner of Incarnation Catholic Church for over 50 years.
After raising her boys, she continued as a caregiver and helped raise her many grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was a talented cook, a skilled seamstress, an avid Tampa Bay Rays fan, and a marvelous example to us all of faith, love, kindness, and generosity. She was always focused on helping those less fortunate, particularly those who stayed behind in Cuba. More than all else, she cherished being surrounded by her loving family and was as thankful for that blessing as we have been for having her as a beacon in our lives.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday, February 14th at 6pm followed by a prayer of the rosary at 7pm at Boza & Roel, 4730 N Armenia Ave.
A mass will be held on Thursday at 10am at Incarnation Catholic Church, 5111 Webb Rd, followed by a noon burial at Sunset Memory Gardens, 11005 US-301 in Thonotosassa.
In lieu of flowers, the family has request to send donations to the American Heart Association
