Armando Sanchez Jr's Obituary
Armando Sanchez Jr, 89 of Tampa, FL passed away peacefully on March 2, 2023, surrounded by his loving family. He was born April 30, 1933, to Armando and Clara Sanchez, and lived his nearly ninety years of life with laughter and a sharp sense of humor.
Armando’s greatest pride was his abundant family, with whom he enjoyed everything from large family dinners, trips to the beach with his children and grandchildren, and baseball practices with his son, grandsons and great grandsons. Our fondest memories are of the laughter around the kitchen table when Armando’s wit was at its finest.
Armando grew up with a passion for baseball and enjoyed success at many levels. Armando was a career catcher and began his baseball life at Jefferson High School and the Intersocial League at Cuscaden Park. He later found further accomplishment in the minor leagues with the Dodgers and was also named to the Jefferson High School 50-year Dream Team. His legacy as a Jefferson High School baseball catcher extended to his son, Armando “Boy” Sanchez, a catcher for Jefferson in the early 70s, and his Grandson, Alex Iglesias, a Jefferson Catcher in 2011 and 2012.
Armando is survived by his wife of 70 years, Yolanda Sanchez and his three Daughters, Donna Coughlin (Ken), Debra Abreut, Melissa Gonzalez (Jose); six Grandchildren: Dawn Pacheco, Ericke Hare (Vicky), Tamara Davidson (Tom), Vanessa Abreut, Chandra Sanchez (Jade) and Alex Iglesias; eight great grandchildren: Elizabeth Pacheco (Dominic), Joshua Pacheco (Sylvia), Ericke Hare Jr, Jordan Hare (Serena), Hannah Montalbano (John), Sarah Davidson, Julia Davidson and Rebekah Davidson; and six Great-great grandchildren: Joshua Pacheco Jr, Nazayli Ortiz, Norman Ortiz, Kaiden Bostic, Nicolas Bostic and Emilia Hare.
He was preceded in death by his parents Armando and Clara Sanchez; his sons, Joseph Thomas Sanchez and Armando “Boy” Sanchez III (Ginger); his grandson, Daniel Iglesias; his great grandson, Devin Pacheco; and his son-in-law, Nector Abreut.
He leaves behind a legacy of family, laughter and a love for the Lord. Although we are mourning, we know that Armando is in the loving arms of our Lord who is telling him, “Well done, my good and faithful servant.”
The Family will receive friends at the Boza and Roel Funeral Home, 4730 Armenia Ave., Tampa, Florida on Saturday, March 11, 2023, at 11:00 A.M., followed by a procession to a graveside service at the Centro Español Memorial Park Cemetery,4601 E. Lake Ave Tampa, Florida.
