Mr William D Scruggs Sr's Obituary
SCRUGGS, SR., WILLIAM DENNIS died on June 11, 2011. He was predeceased by his parents Charles and Sarah (Dug); and Sister Janice. He is survived by his sons, Dennis Jr. and David, his wife Tammy, granddaughter Amber Marie Scruggs, her husband Ryan Melfi, great-grandson Cooper William & brother Charles. A graduate of Hillsborough High class of '58', he lettered in football; and was named to The Tribune All City, All Conference and All State Football Teams. Recruited with a 4 year scholarship to play for the Gators he left Gainesville to serve his country in the US Army & upon his honorable discharge, he joined the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Department. A 1972 graduate of USF, he followed in the footsteps of his father and became a Master Plumber and a proud member of the Plumbers and Pipefitters Local Union #123; he went on to represent his union brothers as their political liaison. Dennis was active in veteran's affairs and was commander of American Legion Post #111 for three terms. He will be greatly missed by his family and numerous friends for his sense of humor and the stories he loved to tell. A memorial service will take place at 11:00am on Thursday, June 16, 2011 at St. Lawrence Catholic Church. The family will receive guest from 10:00 to 11:00am at the church.
