HAGGERTY, William Lawrence
William L. Haggerty passed away peacefully in Tampa, FL on December 9, 2019 after a long struggle with cancer. He was born on February 2, 1930 in Canonsburg, Washington County, PA, the son of Charles R. and Lillian M. (Higgins) Haggerty. A Korean War veteran, he served in the U.S. Air Force as an aircraft hydraulics technician for over 6 years, achieving the rank of Staff Sergeant (Technical).
IN 1958, following his discharge from the Air Force, he married Wanda Supinsky in Cecil where he built 2 homes and raised 2 children. He was employed as a steel fabricating fitter for over 30 years at Ionics Inc., Parkway Fabricating and other fabricating shops. Following his retirement, he and his wife resided in Moyock, NC. He moved to Tampa in 2018 to be near his family. He enjoyed woodworking, growing vegetables and tending fruit trees.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Wanda Barbara and son Gary William. He is survived by a son, Robert Charles and his wife, Carol-Ann of Tampa, FL. Surviving in addition to his son and daughter-in-law are his brothers, Roger, of Hendersonville and James, of Washington and many nieces and nephews.
Per his wishes, no service will be held. A cremation is planned and a delayed scattering of ashes in a much-loved spot near his North Carolina home.
