Virginia Gil Ceballos' Obituary
Virginia “Ginger” Gil Ceballos, age 94, passed away peacefully on July 12, 2025. She was born on October 20, 1930, in Havana, Cuba. In June 1960, seeking freedom from communist Cuba, she and her family made a new home in Tampa, Florida.
She was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Gilberto M. Gil and Eunice Smith Gil; her brother, Gilbert M. Gil; her husband, Rustan R. Ceballos; and their young son, Rustancito Ceballos, Jr.
Ginger is survived by her loving daughters, Maria Irene C. Hoskinson (Robert) and Virginia “Kiki” C. Rice (Donny), who will forever cherish her memory. She was a devoted and adoring grandmother to Travis Rice, Chelsea Rice, and Ryan Hoskinson. She was also dearly loved by her nieces Lizzette Sarria and Beatriz Gil, her nephew Gilbert Gil, and her sister-in-law and lifelong best friend, Ofelia V. Gil. She leaves behind many extended family members and friends who will remember her with deep affection.
Ginger worked for many years as an office administrator, including over a decade alongside the late Dr. Victor Fajardo. Known for her generosity and warmth, she was a second mother to many of her daughters’ friends—welcoming them into her home, offering meals, laughter, and comfort when they needed it most.
She found joy in the simple pleasures: a great hamburger, French fries, a milkshake, or a perfectly brewed café con leche. She never forgot a birthday—always sending a card, often followed by a phone call to make sure you knew you were remembered and loved.
Her strong will, compassionate heart, selfless acts, and unconditional love defined who she was. Ginger’s beautiful smile and nurturing spirit will live on in the hearts of all who knew her. She was endlessly devoted to her family and embraced many roles—Mami, Lela, Wella, and Tia— with pride arid love.
Our family would like to express our sincere gratitude to the staff at Cameron ALF for the compassionate care they provided since 2021.
In her memory, donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, an
organization she faithfully supported for over 50-years.
Rejoice in God’s Kingdom, dear Mom. Your love and legacy will carry us always. We will miss you more than words can ever express.
Graveside services will be announced at a later date.
