Vilma Fiedler's Obituary
FIEDLER, Vilma (Suarez), 82, of Tampa, FL passed away on Tuesday, Dec. 25, 2018.
Born in Tampa May 17, 1936 to Asuncion (Fernandez) and Sindulfo Suarez, Vilma grew up during Ybor City's heyday surrounded by aunts, uncles, and cousins. Family has always been the primary focus of her life. Today, her family grieves their loss but rejoices in the spirit of her life and her legacy of love and family. Vilma was married for 30 years to Douglas L. Fiedler. When he retired from the US Air Force in 1967, Tampa was the only place they considered making a home for their three children, Douglas M. Fiedler (Yolanda), Tracy M. Fiedler, and Holly (Fiedler) Shields (Paul). With her creative and natural sense of style, Vilma began a successful career in fashion retail, retiring at the age of 78 after nearly 50 years. Vilma always valued people over things and emphasized appreciating what she had over wanting more.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, loving parents, brother Augustin Suarez, and brother-in-law William K. Young.
She is survived by her best friend and sister Esther (Suarez) Young, and sister-in-laws Josephine (Corso) Suarez Fernandez and Patricia (Fiedler) Parker.
Her legacy of love of family lives on through her cherished grandchildren Tiffany (Fiedler) Dawson (Tony), Douglas M. Fiedler II, Alexandra and Zachary Shields, and her great-grandchildren Lucas, Hunter, and Riley Dawson. Also close to her heart were the family of her sister Esther including her cherished niece Jeanne (Young) Barton.
Vilma will be laid to rest next to Douglas at Bay Pines National Ceremony in St. Petersburg FL on Thursday, January 3, 2019. A graveside ceremony will be performed at 10 am with a celebration of Vilma's life to be held at the residence of Tiffany and Tony Dawson following the burial. A visitation will also be conducted 6 to 8 pm, with a memorial service at 7:00 pm Wednesday, January 2, 2019 at Boza & Roel Funeral Home.
