Simon Pozo's Obituary
Simon Pozo was born on October 28, 1927 in Guane, Pinar del Rio, Cuba. He was one of many that made up the greatest generation of Cubans. Fleeing oppression and communism, he was forced to give up two years of his life in a Cuban work camp away from his family to buy their passage to the United States. He, his wife and his three children arrived in May of 1970. He lived in Miami and Boston until he settled his family in Tampa in 1973. Simon and Maria did everything for their family and the one thing that was never lacking was love. He loved the United States and was forever grateful to his adopted country but never forgot the country of his birth. A vocal proponent of Freedom and Democracy for Cuba, he was a long-time member of Casa Cuba and protested the inhumanities in Cuba well into his 90’s. He was loved and respected by all who met him.
Simon was preceded in death by his wife of over 50 years, Maria Pozo; his parents Jose and Ramona; his siblings Jose Luis, Desiderio, Francisco, Raul, Casalina, Rosario, Josefa, Clara, and Angela. His surviving siblings are Armando Ramos and Juana Pozo.
He is survived by his children and their spouses Consuelo (Jose), Clara (Rene) and Jose (Martaluz); his grandchildren Silvia (Miguel), Mara (Rob), Carolina (Cody), Julissa (JJ), Rene (Rachel), Isabella and Gabriella; his great grandchildren Tito (Kelsey), Diego, Michael, Thalia, Cash, Leo, Nico and Violet; his great great granddaughter Olivia; his niece Milagro (Antonio) and son Santiago; and many more family members that loved him dearly.
The family would like to thank Dr. Darla Broderick-Breit and her fabulous staff. All of which took wonderful care of mom and dad for many years.
