Rose Frances Spicola's Obituary
SPICOLA, ROSE FRANCES, PHD, Cornaro Professor Emerita, noted educator and author, passed November 21, 2012, born in Tampa July 18, 1928, a graduate of Hillsborough High and Tulane University's H. Sophie Newcom College, she earned her Master's and Doctorate Degrees in Education and Reading at Florida State University. Dr. Spicola was a member of The University of South Florida's Charter Faculty Staff, later teaching at Virginia's Longwood College before taking a permanent position at Texas Women's Colleg in Denton until her retirement. To honor her memory, Texas Women's College conducts an International Reading Forum annually, named for her. Dr. Spicola was a Fullbright Scholar serving one year overseas. She is suvived by her beloved sister Judy Ann Spicola Bokor, husband Richard, sister Josephine Spicola, brothers Angelo C. Spicola, wife Joyce, Carlo 'Charles' G. Spicola Jr. wife Antoinette and many loving nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to your choice of charities of The Humane Society of Tampa.
