Mr Robert Flaherty's Obituary
FLAHERTY, Robert, 85, passed away Saturday, 30 July 2011. He was born 10 November 1925 in Winchester, Massachusetts, to Michael and Harriet (Hodge) Flaherty and older sister Frances. He was raised in Portland, Maine, where he graduated from Cheverus Classical High School, which was staffed by Jesuit priests. During World War II, he served on the submarine Torsk, which sank the last two Japanese ships in the Pacific Theater. After the war, he joined the U.S. Air Force. He retired twenty years later to Tampa, Florida, where he worked in the U.S. Post Office until a second retirement. He is survived by his beloved wife of sixty years, Connie (Spoto) Flaherty; son Michael and his wife Gretchen; son Robert B. and his wife Keiko; and daughter Christina Zapf and her husband Bryan. In addition, he is survived by seven grandchildren: Rachel, Richard, Catherine, Christopher, Peter, Evan, and Emily. His devotion to his family and church was a fine example to us all. A funeral mass for the repose of his soul will be held on Wednesday August 3, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at Church of the Incarnation, 8220 W. Hillsborough Avenue, Tampa. Family will receive visitors at the church beginning at1:00 p.m. Interment will follow at Garden of Memories.
