Richard T. Sloan's Obituary
Richard T. Sloan of Naples, FL and Chicago lost his second battle with AML on January 4, 2018. He was 73 years old.
Rick was born to Margaret McGrath and Russell Sloan in Summit, New Jersey. He attended school in Ridgefield Park, NJ and enlisted in the U.S. Navy following high school. He graduated from Indiana University School of Business and realized his youthful dream to become an international business executive. His career was focused primarily in the area of aircraft finance. His colleagues appreciated his honesty, dry wit and candid, straightforward manner as did his friends.
Rick pursued hobbies and activities with gusto including piloting small planes, motorcycling, running, snowboarding, bicycling, golf, travel, music and studying French. He enjoyed living in Naples and loved city life in Chicago. Rick was passionate about fairness and vocal about the causes he supported. Rick is survived by his wife Kate, his daughter Emily Skafish and his granddaughter Cassidy Skafish. A Memorial Mass will be held at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Naples on Saturday, January 20 at 10:00 am. A gathering of friends and family to celebrate his life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
