Ramona Wathey's Obituary
RAMONA SOUSA WATHEY
FEBRUARY 22, 1930-FEBRUARY 28, 2025
It is with our deepest sorrow that we announce the death of our beloved mother, grandmother and great grandmother Ramona Sousa Wathey, on February 28, 2025. She passed peacefully at her home surrounded by loved ones.
Ramona, was born in New York but made Tampa her home for 59 years where she raised her family and worked in the medical field. This inspired her to go back to school at the age of 49 and become a nurse and she worked at the Women’s Hospital in the nursery caring for all the new babies being born from our family and friends and our community. There are many stories about how Ramona cared for them and their babies during that time in her life. Ramona, a loving soul and dedicated mother and nurse, will be missed by her loving family and friends and leaves a legacy of a kind heart, everlasting caringness, and as her sisters described her always being the first to dance and start the party with her unforgettable smile and fun personality.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Carmelo and Maria Sousa, and joins her five sisters, Sylvia Crowe, Irene Noriega, Carmelita Gatel, Julia Sousa and Delores “Lolly” Martinez, and her husband, John Wathey, in Heaven.
Ramona is survived by her four children and their spouses — Dr. Joseph Camunas and Connie; Michael Camunas, Sr. and Patty; Edward Camunas and Cindy; and Maria “Tiki” Camunas. She is also survived by her thirteen grandchildren, and their spouses — JoAnna Langdon and Richard; Joseph “JAC” Camunas and Tanya; Michael Camunas, Jr. and Brittany Camunas; Edward Mendez and Jessica; Cayla, Danny and Eva Camunas; Olivia Camunas and Alyssa Camunas; Devin Clark, Marcella Clark and Nigel Clark and Olivia; She is also survived by her seven great grandchildren — Abbey Langdon, Collins Langdon, Jordyn Camunas, Andrew Camunas, Mia Mendez, Bryn Mendez and Lucas Mendez; and was loved by her many nieces and nephews.
