Philip Rosete's Obituary
Rosete, Felipe (Philip), 89, lifetime resident of Tampa, passed away on March 3, 2012. He was preceded in death by his birth mother Isabel Robles and parents Felipe and Encarnacion Rosete. He is survived by his wife of 63 years Ofelia Fernandez Rosete; his children Marlena Rosete Scardino (John) and Philip Arthur Rosete; his grandchildren Julie Scardino, John Scardino III (Alison), Angela Rosete Soto (Isaac), and Philip Dean Rosete (fiance Jessica Ruiz); and 9 great grandchildren; brother Francisco Rosete and three sisters Etelvina Fernandez, Blanca Rosete Vera, and Hortensia Rosete Beiro. Born June 24, 1922. He devoted 48 years of his life to education as a classroom teacher in the public and private schools, as an administrator at Hillsborough Community College and as an adjunct professor at the University of Florida, University of Tampa, and Florida State University.
A combat veteran of World War II, he served in the European Theatre of Operations. He was awarded four battle stars for action from France to the surrender of Germany. He also served ten years as a member of the 116th Field Artillery Battalion of the Florida National Guard. He contributed to the community by serving as a member of the State Planning Board for Community Colleges; a lifetime member of the Centro Asturiano de Tampa, where he was a member of the Board of Directors and also served as President of the Centro Asturiano Hospital Board of Directors; he also served on the Board of Directors of the Tampa Public Library.
Visitation will be held at the St. Anthony's Chapel at Jesuit High School at 4701 N. Himes Avenue between 10 and 11:30 AM Saturday, March 10, 2012. Catholic Mass will begin at 11:30 AM followed by graveside services at the Centro Asturiano Memorial Park Cemetery, 5402 E. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Blvd, followed by a gathering of friends and family at St. John's Presbyterian Church Fellowship Hall, 4120 N. MacDill Avenue in Tampa. Pallbearers include John Scardino Jr., Philip Arthur Rosete, John Scardino, III, Isaac Soto, Philip Dean Rosete, Osiris Johnson, M. Mark Beiro, Albert, Charles, and Arthur (Tito) Rosete, Francisco (Quico) Rosete, and Eric Noriega.
