Ofelia Valdes' Obituary
VALDES, Ofelia, 98, of Tampa, passed away peacefully at home on November 23, 2016. She was born in Candelaria, Cuba to the late Aurelio Valdes and Maria Cordero. Ofelia, known mostly by “Abuela”, was a most beautiful, wonderful, devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother of 6. She was always our most popular go-to babysitter (along with Abuelo). She was most famous for her pound cakes! Not even Sara Lee could compete. No matter the occasion- you always got a pound cake. Our deepest gratitude goes out to our ladies who were by her side these past years, beginning with Flor Garcia, Iliana, Maria, Gloria, Dania, Odelia, and mostly Mabel Teleña. And special thanks to the “Pink Team” from Hospice for their compassionate care. She is preceded in death by Ruben her husband of over 70 years. Ofelia is survived by her son, Dr. Ruben Valdes (Terri), grandsons: Marc, Jeffrey (Jennifer), and Jody (Tifphani), 6 great grandchildren: Mikayla, Luke, Madeline, Jaxson, Mason, and Matthew Valdes, many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. A visitation will be held from 10 a.m. – 11 a.m., with a funeral service at 11 a.m., on Monday, November 28, at Boza and Roel Funeral Home, 4730 N Armenia Ave, Tampa, FL 33603. Pall bearers will be: Sal Valdes, Rasciel Valdes, Jorge Valdes, John Gallar, Silfredo Leon, and Michael Valdes, honorary pallbearers will be her 3 grandsons, Marc, Jeffrey, and Jody. Interment will follow at Garden of Memories Cemetery, Tampa. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Children’s Home www.childrenshome.org or sent to St. Lawrence Early Childhood Program. www.bozaroel.com
