On my way in to work this morning I heard the song "Fire on the mountain" on the radio and it immediately took me back to many good memories of my time serving under Maj. Knight in the early 80's at Ft Bragg, NC. I retired from the service in 1996 and I will have to say Maj. Knight was my favorite Commander. He treated people with dignity and respect and I can say categorically his troops loved and respected him. To this day the worst butt chewing I ever got in the service, the one the hurt me the worst, was one I got from Maj. Knight and all he said in it was "Bill, you disappointed me" in that calm even manner of his; the pain coming from knowing I had let him down.
After hearing the song this morning, and the good memories it brought back, I looked him up on line and sadly discovered he had passed away.
I don't know if this memory will get to any of the family but I just wanted to express my sincere condolences. Maj Knight was a good soldier, a good man, a friend and a person who I proud to say I knew! CW4 (Ret) William A. Rudd
