Mrs. Nancy Ann Scaglione Messina's Obituary
MESSINA, Nancy Ann Scaglione, 82 passed away peacefully on November 12, 2015 surrounded by her family and friends. The eleventh of twelve children of Nunzio (Nick) and Laura Noto Scaglione, Nancy grew up in Ybor City, and was full of stories about the richness of our city's culture and history. She was a 1950 graduate of Hillsborough High School and a lifelong Tampa resident. She is predeceased in passing by her daughter Nanette Griffin Messina, her husband Paul Messina and seven brothers and sisters. She is survived by children Paul Messina (Cathy), Andrew Messina, M.D. (Jane), Lisa Messina and Frank Messina (Christie); twelve grandchildren Paul, Jr., Esq., Anthony, Esq., Catriana, Esq., and Gianna Messina, Robert and Jake Griffin, Andrew, Victoria and Nicholas Messina, Ashlie, Corinne and Frank Messina; her beloved great-grandchild, Arianna Messina; sisters Mary Scaglione Frayne and Lily Scaglione Chao; brothers Tony and Basil Scaglione; and dozens of cousins, nieces and nephews, all of whose birthdays she always remembered. Nancy was the center of our family- our guiding light and moral compass whose laughter and love for life, even during hard times, lit up everyone around her. She raised five children and, along with her husband and three children, ran a successful business, Central Wholesale Distributors, for years. She loved God, her family, Ybor City, visiting friends, coffee (especially at the Tropicana), bingo, the Double Diamond Deluxe slot machine, Frank Sinatra, Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, any of her grandchildren's sporting events, and basketball, especially the Miami Heat. Her absence leaves a void that will be filled with memories and life lessons too numerous to be listed. She requests that donations in her memory be made to Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church. Pallbearers will be Paul and Anthony Messina, Andrew and Nicholas Messina, Bob and Jake Griffin and Andrew and Michael Maida. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 PM on Friday, November 20, 2015 at Boza & Roel Funeral Home, 4730 N. Armenia Ave, Tampa, FL with recitation of the Catholic Wake Rite at 8:30 PM. A Funeral Mass for the repose of Nancy's soul will be celebrated at 10 AM on Saturday, November 21, 2015 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, 1711 E. 11th Ave., Tampa, FL 33605. Entombment will follow in Myrtle Hill Memorial Park.
