May Barnett's Obituary
May Barnett was born May 12, 1937, in Liverpool, England. After her father was killed in World War II, she, along with her older sister were placed in an orphanage where she was raised. May graduated from nursing school at the age of 17. At the age of 18, she married USAF Staff Sergeant Joseph Barnett in England. Together they had four children.
After many years of military transfers, May and her husband settled in Tampa, Florida, where she resumed her career as a nurse in 1975 at St. Joseph’s Hospital. After retiring from St. Joe’s, she worked as a nurse in private practice for Donald Irvine, M.D. After he closed his practice, she volunteered at Moffitt Cancer Center for 3 years where she received Volunteer of the Year award.
Later in life, May received the plan of salvation and began spreading the gospel. Her home church was Bayside Community where she had precious friends who she considered family. She raised her children to be strong, independent adults who were ready for what life had to offer. She loved them unconditionally and they shared many tears and laughs. She loved the Lord’s people and made an impression on everyone she met. Her life was centered around caring for others.
