Mrs. Mary Stella Sarvis' Obituary
SARVIS, Mary Stella, 84, of Tampa, departed this life on Wednesday, October 14, 2009, to join the Lord and her beloved husband, John S. Sarvis, who preceded her in death by 34 years. A second generation Tampa native, Mary served 40 years as an elementary teacher with the Hillsborough County school system. Her credo was "to teach is to touch a life forever". After retirement, Mary was active in numerous organizations throughout the Tampa Bay area including Pan American University Women, Davis Islands Garden Club, Sons of Italy Nuova Sicilia Lodge, and Las Damas. Her hobbies included crochet, doll making, sewing, bingo, and playing cards. In addition, Mary loved to travel to places such as Italy, Spain, Sweden, central Europe, Canada, the Bahamas, and Las Vegas twice a year to play the slots and video poker.
She is survived by her son, Brett, and daughter, Melanie, both of Tampa.
The family would like to thank the staffs and nurses of Stratford Court at Palm Harbor, Ascentia Home Health Care, Alliance Care at Home, Melissa Schultz, 5th floor North Wing of St. Josephs' Hospital, and Melech Hospice House for their care and support over the last 2 years of her time with us. A celebration of her life will be held between 6 - 8 pm on Tuesday, October 20, at the funeral home located at 4730 N. Armenia Ave. Services will take place at 12:30 pm on Wednesday, October 21, at the funeral home with interment to follow at Myrtle Hill Memorial Park.
