Mary C Alonso Perez's Obituary
PEREZ, Mary C. Alonso, passed away peacefully at her home, February 27, 2011. She was under the care of Hospice, Burgundy team. She was born February 4, 1919. She was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Vincenzo "Chef Sarapico" Perez, her parents Juan Alonso and Maria Giuseppa Spicola Alonso, her two brothers Domingo and Jeronomo Alonso as well as 3 sisters, Dominga Scaglione, Adeline Chiaramonte and Florence Lazzara. Survivors include her daughter, Peggy Fernandez and husband Daniel, son Vincent Perez; grandchildren Debra Powers and Michael Fernandez; great grandchildren Erica and Matthew Powers; her beloved rescue dogs, Baby Maggie and Jake. She is also survived by her wonderful neighbors and friends Mr. John Hester and Patricia Hester. Special thanks to Drs. John and Mark Stauffer, nurse Debra LoCicero for their wonderful care. Mary was an avid reader, a professional Embroiderer, a wonderful Sicilian Cook, a caring wife, mother, daughter and friend. She and her husband owned Sarapico Restaurant on South MacDill for 18 years. As a child of the depression, she was forced to leave school at the 10 grade. She had a passion for learning, so in 1980, at the age of 61, she received her High School Diploma from Hillsborough County adult day school. She was Valedictorian of her graduating class, with the highest grade point average in Hillsborough County. The family will receive friends for Visitation, Wednesday, March 2, 2011 between 6 and 8 PM at Boza & Roel Funeral Home, 4730 North Armenia Avenue, Tampa. Graveside Service will be Thursday, March 3, 2011 at 11 AM at the Italian Club Cemetery Mausoleum. Flowers will be accepted, but please consider giving a donation to the Humane Society of Tampa or Life Path Hospice. Boza & Roel funeral home are in charge of arrangements.
