Mariano Puerta, Jr.'s Obituary
Mariano “Grassy” Puerta, Jr., born September 19, 1932 in Tampa, FL, passed away on Monday, March 28, 2016 at the age of 83. He was born and raised in Tampa and is a part of Tampa baseball history as one of the coaches of the West Tampa Little League Baseball team that won the 1970 Senior League World Championship! After coaching, he continued to be involved in baseball as an umpire. He dedicated 24 years of his career to the maintenance department for Hillsborough County Public Schools. In his spare time, Mariano had a passion for fishing. Anyone could find him weekend mornings at the causeway with fishing pole in tow. His parents, Mariano and Josephine Puerta, preceded him in death. He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Delsa, and his five children, Tony and Rick Puerta, and Debra, James, and Michael Bermudez, as well as his daughters-in-law, Joy and Crystal. He also leaves behind seven grandchildren: Michael, Angela, Anthony, Jordan, Logan, Madison, and Eden. The family will receive friends for Visitation, Thursday, March 31, 2016 between 6 and 8 PM at Boza & Roel Funeral Home, 4730 North Armenia Avenue, Tampa. Services will be Friday, April 1, 2016 at 10 AM at the funeral home, followed by Interment at Centro Asturiano Memorial Park.
