Maria Martinez's Obituary
Maria Antonia Martinez Guzman, 96, of Tampa, died November 18, 2020. She was born September 18, 1924 in Havana, Cuba moving here in 1961 to escape Communism. While she maintained our heritage, customs and traditions, she quickly embraced the new ones of her newly adopted country. Her Catholic faith, family and friends were first and foremost in her life, as was her gratitude for being able to live in what she referred to as “the greatest and most generous country in the world.”She is preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Roberto E. Martinez and her son, Robert. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Mercy and Frank Turano, grandchildren, Danah Lee (Tsai), Mark Martinez-Robinson, Robert Martinez-Robinson (Jenifer), great grandchildren, Francesca, Harrison, Autumn, Brodie and Carter Clayton (CC). She dearly loved and considered her nieces and nephews her additional children, Claudelina (“Mayuyi”) Siervo, Evelio Prieto, Estela Prieto and Ignacio Prieto. We will deeply miss our elegant and classy matriarch, she was our last survivor and the perfect example of a bygone era. We wish to thank the staff at Melech Hospice House for their compassion and care. In lieu of flowers, contributions to Lifepath Hospice or St. Lawrence Catholic Church are appreciated.
