Magdalena Gallardo Diaz's Obituary
Magdalena Gallardo Diaz, 86, of Tampa, Florida, passed away on Sunday, December 20, 2020 surrounded by her family at home. She was born in Pinar del Rio, Cuba on December 4, 1934 into a large loving family of many siblings. As a young lady, Magda grew to be independent and moved to Havana where she met her future husband, Juan and together, with their first daughter Maggie, came to Tampa, Florida in 1962. Shortly thereafter, the family grew with the birth of her second daughter Alina. Magda set an example for her many siblings and opened up her home to assist them in their journey to the United States. Over the years she cared for many children of friends and family. She fostered and created many loving and lifelong relationships with everyone she met. Abuela was influential in raising all her grandchildren, including a great-grandchild, and dedicated herself to ensure her family was happy, healthy and well-fed. Mami was an inspirational matriarch who loved unconditionally. She valued family time, traditions, and passing on her Cuban culture. Magda was steadfast in her Catholic faith and shared that gift with her family.
She had a quiet strength and those who met her never forgot how special she made them feel. It was an incredible privilege to know Magda. She never complained and always looked to a better future. She truly left a legacy and will be missed by all.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Juan Diaz. She is survived by her daughters, Magdalena Diaz Leverett (Kurt), Alina Diaz Toledo (Ken), grandchildren Ryan Klosicki (Gina), Jenna Klosicki, Alexis Toledo, Jillian Leverett, great-grandchild Mila Marie Klosicki, her best-friend Emilia Golightly, and her loving siblings, nieces, nephews, and extended family.
A funeral service for Magdalena will be held at the main chapel of Sunset Funeral Home in Thonotosassa on Saturday, December 26th, at 2:00. The family will receive visitors an hour prior, from 1:00 to 2:00.
