Luis Alvarez's Obituary
ALVAREZ, Luis 87, passed away on March 17, 2022. He was predeceased by his wife, Mary, and is survived by his son, Luis Jr. (Judy), and his grandchildren, Max and Ally, of Charlottesville, Virginia. He also leaves behind his sisters, Hortensia and Pilar; a niece, Mari; and two nephews, Armando and Luis, all of Asturias, Spain. Luis was born in Vegadeo, Asturias, to Celia Barcia and Valentín Alvarez Riopedre, who died fighting for the Republic in the Spanish Civil War. Luis took care of his mother and sisters, and then met Mary, the love of his life. After a secret courtship, they married in 1960 in Vegadeo and emigrated to Tampa, where Luis became a proud American and was sworn to citizenship by Congressman Sam Gibbons. Luis was devoted to Mary for 53 years. He adored his grandchildren and always thrilled to hear about and talk to them. He reveled in the company of his friends, especially when they gathered on Saturday mornings. Luis was charming and generous; he lifted hearts and brightened every room. The family wishes to thank Aging Care Advocates, in particular Mikaela, Michelle, and Alli; the staff of Bayshore Pointe; and the doctors and nurses of Tampa General Hospital.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
