Kevin F. Johnson's Obituary
Kevin Frank Johnson Sr., lovingly known as “K-Tel,” was born on January 20, 1965, in Poughkeepsie, New York. He later made his home in Tampa, Florida, where he resided at the time of his passing. Kevin departed this life on January 16, 2026, just days before his 61st birthday.
Kevin proudly served his country in the United States Army. He was also widely known for his love of music, especially rapping and dancing. His energy, rhythm, and creative expression brought joy and laughter to many family gatherings and community moments. He will be remembered for his spirit, his talent, and the way he could light up a room.
Though life took him from New York to Florida, he remained connected to his roots and to those who loved him.
He is survived by his children Kevin Jamar Johnson of New York, Kashara Johnson of New York, Kevin Johnson III and wife Brittany Johnson of Florida, Lorenzo Johnson and wife Stephany Johnson of Florida, and Startasia Johnson of New York, along with other children who were part of his legacy.
He was preceded in death by his mother Susie Lee Johnson; his father Alexander Mansfield Johnson; his brothers Carlton Mansfield Johnson and Johnny Johnson; and his siblings Sam Jerome Bimbo and Sonya Kay Bimbo of Montgomery, Alabama.
He leaves to cherish his memory his siblings Zilphia Johnson Malcolm and husband Brian Malcolm, Alfonso Johnson and wife Etheldria Johnson, Charles Bimbo and wife Olivia Bimbo of Tuskegee, Alabama, Jesse Bimbo of Montgomery, Alabama, Robbie Johnson, Dawna Lee Jackson of Buffalo, New York, Pomfila Johnson, Tina Johnson, Sabrina Johnson, and Missy Johnson of Poughkeepsie, New York, Eddie Jackson of Tampa, Florida, Ruthie Jackson, Bobby Jackson, Tommy Jackson, and Tina Jackson of Poughkeepsie, New York, Calvin Jackson, Betty Ann Jackson, and Joyce Jackson of Orlando, Florida, a special cousin James Davis (Mastermind) of New York, along with a host of nieces and nephews across New York, Virginia, Florida, and Alabama.
Kevin’s life touched many, and his memory will remain with all who knew and loved him.
