Juana Avila Mondragon's Obituary
Juana Avila Mondragón, 97, of Tampa, peacefully passed away on July 12, 2023, surrounded by her loving family.
She was born on July 7, 1925, in Somondoco Boyacá, Colombia, one of seven children to Aurelia Heredia and Juan de Jesus Avila. Juana was a shining example of resilience and many talents.
She migrated to the United States in 1975 with her family, seeking new opportunities and a better life. From an early age, she was a hard worker and had a creative spirit. She loved gardening, making her own clothes, having her family together on Sundays for home-cooked meals, and eventually discovered a passion for painting in later years. These were just a few of the remarkable skills she had throughout her life.
Juana was preceded in death by her son Luis Eduardo, her husband Argemiro, siblings Rafael, Nohemy, Dolores, Rafael Antonio, and Isabel, as well as cousins Aracely, Pedro, Manuel, Alfonso, and Blanca.
She is survived by her children Nohemy, Marlene, and Gustavo, daughter-in-law Julia; grandchildren Larry, Richard (Shellie), Alexander (Haley), Yasaman, Leilah, and Janelle; great-grandchildren Nidya, Alexis, Sophia, Mason, Maddox, and Malin; nieces and nephews Olga, Hector, Luis Orlando, Rafael, Alberto, Juan, Claudia Patricia, Juan Carlos, Alex, Sergio Daniel; and cousins Carmenza, Luz, Tito, and Aurora.
Juana’s greatest joy in life was her beautiful family. Her strength, unconditional love for family, and incredible devotion to Jesus and God will forever be remembered as an exceptional example to all.
A memorial and funeral service will be held on June 17, 2023, at Boza & Roel to celebrate Juana Avila Mondragón's remarkable life. She will be dearly missed but will live on in our hearts as a source of inspiration and love.
