Josephine Sanchez's Obituary
Josephine Sanchez, age 97, of Ybor City, FL died August 21, 2023, in Tampa, FL, two months short of her 98th birthday.
She was born on Oct. 21, 1925, to Rosa and David Fernandez.
Josephine attended Jefferson High School and worked at Sun State Slacks.
She married Mario Sanchez (of West Tampa, FL) on February 16, 1946. They had one son, Halley Sanchez (Tampa, FL).
Josephine went by “Fefa”, but was known as “Abuela” by all. She enjoyed walking around MacFarlane Park, activities at Barksdale, doing word searches, watching game shows, animals, and staying busy. She LOVED to feed others and make them “café.” Most of all, she loved spending time with her granddaughter and great granddaughter, attending all of their activities and events.
Josephine is survived by her son Halley, her granddaughters Roxana Sanchez (EJ Doychak) and Liha Sanchez (Ricardo Martinez), and great-grandchildren Mia Horn-Sanchez and Damian Martinez.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband (Mario Sanchez), brothers (Raymond Fernandez and David Fernandez), best friend and sister-in-law (Gladys Fernandez), and granddaughter (Anita Sanchez).
The family will attend a private interment at Bushnell, Friday Aug 25, 2023. All are invited to a memorial mass in her honor on Saturday, August 26, 2023. The mass will take place at Villa Madonna’s gymnasium (315 W Columbus Dr. Tampa, FL 33602) from 3-4pm. Please wear something green – Abuela’s favorite color.
