Joseph Ochoa's Obituary
Joseph Michael Ochoa, 54, of Tampa, Florida, passed on January 14, 2023. A lifelong resident of Tampa, he was preceded in death by his father, Joseph "Jose" Ochoa, and is survived by his beloved mother, Xiomara "Mary" Hernandez (Roy), "dad" Frank Fernandez (Patty), his sister Jessica Eckley (Shawn), brothers Frankie Fernandez and E.J. Fernandez (Gina), aunts Otilia Rivera-Ellinghausen (John), Angela Maria Ochoa, Margarita Ochoa Alvarez, uncle, Mino Rivera, as well as his many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Joe also leaves behind his beloved family, whom he was blessed to have joined, becoming a supportive partner to Shani Edelstein, father figure to her sons, Baltazar and Max, and friend to her sisters, Lisa Edelstein and Lisa McKinney.
Joseph had a heart of gold, and it was with things both big and small that he showed his love to those around him. He called his mother every day, multiple times a day, just to check in. Joe cared for his father when fallen ill, tending to the challenges and pains that cancer caused. He took his niece to the Fair each year and loved every moment he could spend with her one-on-one. Both on holidays and throughout the year, Joe took food to the homeless, revisiting some people regularly to bring clothes and other needed items. He cooked morning breakfast for the boys, picked up Max from school, and loved getting creative in the kitchen with a new dish for Shani to try. He constantly found ways to bless those around him.
More than anything else, Joe loved his family and will be dearly missed by all those who loved him.
We will celebrate the life of Joesph Michael Ochoa on Wednesday, January 25, at 6-8 pm at Boza and Roel Funeral Home. As his death was sudden and unexpected, the family hopes you consider continuing Joe's legacy of giving and support by donating to a fund established for Shani, Baltazar, and Max in lieu of flowers.
