Mr. Joseph D. Messina's Obituary
Joseph D. Messina, a life-long resident of Tampa, passed away on September 27, 2010. He was born to Rosalia Damico Messina and Antonio Messina on February 18, 1917.
He was preceded in death by his parents and by his brother, Carlos Messina and his sister, Theresa Messina Mirabella.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Phyllis Bilella Messina, daughter Linda Messina Childers (Fred) and son Anthony M. Messina, MD (Marilyn).
In addition, Mr. Messina is survived by four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren: Laura Bentivegna (Jim), VJ and Natalie; Lana Bellini (David), Kyle and Anthony; Michael Messina (Jennessy), Aliyah and Jo; Andrea Messina Gebbia (Chris).
Mr. Messina was a 1935 graduate of Hillsborough High School. He was past President of the Florida American Postal Workers Union and past President of The Sons of Italy.
The family will receive friends from 2:00 to 3:00 on Saturday, October 2, 2010 at the Boza and Roel Funeral Home at 4730 N. Armenia Ave. with entombment to follow at The Italian Club Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a favorite charity.
