Joseph E. Nunez's Obituary
Joseph “Pepe” E. Nuňez, passed peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Friday, March 16, 2018. Predeceased by his wife, Sylvia, and is survived by his sons, Pat (Martina) and Joe (Kelly), and grandchildren Casey (Erica), Spencer, Derek, Julia and Olivia. Born in Santiago de Cuba on June 1, 1935, he moved to Florida in 1957, and married the love of his life, Sylvia, in 1959.
He worked at Central Asturiano and then St. Joseph Hospital in the laboratory for over 30 years. After he retired from St. Joseph’s he worked part-time with Sylvia at Dr. Loreto’s office. Throughout his life he volunteered and supported his son’s activities at South Seminole Baseball Park and made it to as many baseball games and dance recitals for his grandchildren as his body allowed. Although his body failed him, his quick wit, and love of life and Latin music never did. He danced like a teenager long after he was one and never met a plate of food he didn’t like!
Services will be held on Friday, March 23, 2108 at St. Paul’s Catholic Church, visitation at 1:00pm followed by funeral mass at 2:00pm. In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to St. Joseph’s Children’s Hospital Foundation, 2700 W. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Blvd. Suite 310, Tampa, FL 33607 or visit www.give2stjoeskids.org
