As a combat veteran of WW II, he served as a paratrooper in both the 101st, and 82nd Airborne divisions. He served in Africa, participated in the first recorded combat jump, into Sicily, and went on to fight in Italy, France, and Germany. Later in life, he shared his stories of his experiences, including the stranding at Bastogne, and survival in brutal cold. He was a recipient of the Purple Heart, and the Bronze Star medal .Jack grew up in the Sulphur Springs area of Tampa, and spent some of his early years in Atlanta, Ga. Settling back in Tampa, following the war, with his first wife Myrle, he worked for Life Insurance Company of Georgia, retiring there after 35 years. Realizing retirement wasn't for him, and to help fund his enjoyment of visiting Las Vegas, he went to work delivering publications for Haas Publishing, working well into his 80's. He enjoyed golf (many a Saturday morning would find him at Rocky Point), the beach, the NC mountains, and later, meeting his friends at Citrus Park Mall, and watching the Rays on TV.
Jack was a member of the original congregation of the Lutheran Church of the Holy Trinity in Tampa. He lived his life with a devotion to God and his family. His loyalty and dedication drove him; his kindness, honesty, pride, and integrity defined him; and he will forever be an inspiration to those that knew him. His love for his family was unwavering and absolute, and we truly salute the man we loved so much, and celebrate his life.
