John G. Jackson's Obituary
Jackson, John G., of Tampa, FL, passed away July 2, 2021, with his family at his side. He is preceded in death by parents, Emory and Myrtle Jackson, sisters Ruth, Eleanor, Hazel, brother Emory, daughter Sue, and loving wife Mary. John is survived by his three children James, Carroll, and Joseph Jackson and 5 grandchildren Jamie, Lorraine, John, Alexander and Patrick Jackson.
John was born and raised in Odessa, Florida. He attended Hillsborough High School and enlisted in the U.S. Navy at the age of 17 on January 27, 1941. He extended his enlistment for the duration of WWII, becoming a member of the “Greatest Generation”. He attended Florida Southern for his BS degree and University of Florida for his Master’s Degree in Education. His passion was teaching and he spent most of his professional life at Chamberlain and Leto High Schools teaching technical drafting.
John married his beloved wife Mary in 1956 and fathered James, Carroll, and Joe. His commitment to the US Navy never waned after the war as he joined the US Naval Reserve and fully retired in 1981. After losing Mary in 2012, he moved in to Allegro Hyde Park and made many friends amongst the residents and staff. Everybody loved John and his smiling face and quick witted humor will be sorely missed by all of his friends, caregivers, and family. Aloha John!
A Funeral Mass will be on Thursday, July 8, 2021, at 10:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 509 N Florida Ave, Tampa, Committal Services will follow at the Florida National Cemetery, 6502 SW 102nd Ave, Bushnell, at 1:00 p.m.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 7, 2021 from 4:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. at Boza & Roel Funeral Home, 4730 North Armenia Ave, Tampa.
