Saddened to hear of Jimmie Saladino's passing and I offer my condolences to the family. Stacy Saladino Leikam's mother Mary Rossie was Jimmie's sister-in-law. About the year 1958 when I was 15 years old, I stayed the summer with Aunt Rossie in Tampa. Once a week the Saladino brothers and their families would go to their parents' home for a delicious spaghetti and meatball dinner. There was never a dull moment. The kids had fun, the kitchen was filled with laughing and talking, and baseball games were always on TV. I thought that Jimmie, his wife and their children were beautiful and so happy. One day while the dinner was being prepared I was watching the ball game on TV with Jimmie. He too played baseball with a local team. I remember the name of famous Ted Williams being repeated by the announcers on TV. Then Jimmie turned from the game to me and chuckled, "Listen to those women in the kitchen! They are all talking at the same time in three different languages!" And he was right, some in English and some in Spanish, and some Italian. After that summer I never saw Jimmie again except in occasional photographs. Even after these many years, Jimmie Saladino left me with a pleasant memory of a handsome man who loved to laugh, loved baseball, and loved his family. I'm sure he will be missed. -- Janie Weekley McPherson
