James Hastings' Obituary
James Jeffrey Hastings, loving husband, father, grandfather, and a proud veteran of the U.S. Navy, passed away on Monday June 26, 2023, after he lost his battle with cancer. He was surrounded by family and went peacefully, and at the time of his passing, he was known by Jim, Dad, and Pop.
James was the son of George and Janet Hastings. He was born on June 27, 1946. Jim commissioned as an Ensign in the U.S. Navy in 1969 and served 20 years and retired as a Commander. Some of his most memorable assignments were DCA Europe, SAC at Offutt AFB, Joint Chiefs of Staff at the Pentagon, time aboard the USS Ranger as a communications officer, and had the honor of being part of the National Emergency Airborne Command Post Boeing E-4B’s military doomsday plane. As a civilian, he spent 2 years in Iraq as a defense communications contractor. Jim truly valued his service to our country and was a proud veteran.
Jim is survived by his wife Juli Hastings, daughter, Kim (Karl) House and son, Jeff Hastings. He was a grandfather to 4 amazing grandkids Brandon (Ellis), Jordan, Madison, Isabella, and his bonus grandkids; Trevor, Derek, and Trey House who all will miss him dearly. Everyone closest to Jim knows about his affinity with wheels. He spent time building and working on cars and upon retiring that passion continued into his new love which was the RV lifestyle.
Jim was a great man he was loved, admired, and respected by all that knew him. A uniquely talented force of nature both as a veteran and a man. He was adored and will be deeply missed. A service honoring the life of Jim will be held at Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, FL on Thursday July 27, 2023, at 12:30pm.
