Ignacio Barrera's Obituary
IGNACIO "PAPI" BARRERA, peacefully passed away at home on November 10th at the age of 88. Ignacio is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Sylvia Cagnina Barrera. Ignacio is lovingly remembered and cherished by his devoted family; Ignacio Barrera (Lucy), Mario “Ronnie” Palaez (Debbie), Lourdes Barrera (Eriberto), Lydia “Lee” Rosario, Jesus Barrera, Felix ”Pitico” Barrera, Julio Barrera (LaJuanda) and Edna “Pupi” Reyes. Beloved Grandchildren: Ignacio “Ina” Barrera, (Jennifer), Andro “Boli” Barrera, Christian "Poochi" Barrera, Armando "Mandi" Acosta (Holly), Yesenia “Yesi” Acosta, Nicole “Nicky” Walker, Santiago “Piry” Rodriguez (Kaydee), Jose “Adibo” Menendez (Jenna), Christian "Papo" Rosario, Alaina Barrera, Gavin Barrera, Natasha ”Chuchi” Reyes, Reynaldo “Tin-Tin” Reyes and Alex”Nano” Reyes and 13 great grandchildren. His family in Cuba that he would visit as often as possible are brothers Fausto and Jesus and sisters Eloina, Tomasita and Mulatica. Ignacio was extremely proud of his Cuban heritage and cherished his family there and countless nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. More than anything, Ignacio loved making his “famous Cuban Sandwiches” for friends and customers and was known by many names, depending on the stores he owned throughout Tampa. He was “Joe” at Joe’s Market, then Howard Avenue Market in Hyde Park. “Claude” at Claude Guy’s Cafeteria in Ybor. Ignacio, of course, at Cypress Market. “Mr. Special” at Mr. Special in Drew Park. And of course our favorite and long lasting name of “Papi” at Gandy Food Market, Konvenient Food Market, Papi’s Food Market and Mami’s Food Market.
The visitation will be held at Boza & Roel, 4730 N. Armenia Avenue on Friday, November 13th from 6 PM to 8 PM. His funeral service and remembrance, will be held at Boza & Roel on Saturday, November 14th at 10:00 AM. Interment to follow at Garden of Memories
