Henry W. Lavandera's Obituary
Lavandera, Henry W. (Hank), age 70 of Tampa passed away March 15, 2018. A 4th generation Tampanian, he was a graduate of Jefferson High School, the University of South Florida and the University of Florida College of Law. Hank had an illustrious career as an Assistant State Attorney under the Honorable E.J. Salcines and Bureau Chief under Bill James. He retired as an Associate General Counsel at the University of South Florida in 2014. He was a member of the Hillsborough County and Florida Bar Associations. He was a past President of the Criminal Defense Lawyers of Hillsborough County while in private practice, a former board member of the Centro Asturiano, and a member of the Tiger Bay Club. Hank also served as an adjunct professor at Hillsborough Community College and the University of South Florida. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran, having served during the Vietnam conflict. Hank is preceded in death by his parents, Ralph Lavandera, Sr. and Sylvia Garcia Lavandera. Survivors include his wife of 25 years, Mary Frances (Fran) Lavandera; son Joseph F. Lavandera; brothers Ralph Lavandera, Jr. (Alice) and Joe Lavandera (Mary Pat); uncle Joseph Garcia (Anne), and many nieces, nephews and cousins. The Family will receive friends on Saturday, March 24, 2018, from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m., with funeral services being held at 4:30 p.m. at Palma Ceia Presbyterian Church, 3501 W. San Jose Street, Tampa, FL 33629. Reverend Michael Peacock will officiate. Pallbearers include Joseph F. Lavandera, Nicholas Lavandera, Ralph Lavandera, III, David Lavandera, Stephen Garcia and David Garcia. Inurnment will take place at the Florida National Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Salesian Youth Center at the Joe and Anne Garcia Boys and Girls Club, 315 West Columbus Drive, Tampa, FL 33602.
