Helen “Ruthie” Smolen February 3, 1943 – November 16, 2025
Helen “Ruthie” Smolen, 82, passed away peacefully on November 16, 2025. Born on February 3, 1943, in Johnstown, PA, she was the daughter of Clyde and Elmeda (Smith) Dill.
Ruthie proudly served her country in the United States Army before beginning her family. She was a homemaker until her daughters were older, then later retired from Trac Microwave in Tampa, FL.
She was preceded in death by her beloved brother, William “Bill” Dill; her parents; and her great-grandson, Cade Thompson.
She is survived by her devoted husband of nearly 63 years, Edward “Smokey” Smolen, who was the love and constant companion of her life. Together they built a family that meant everything to her. Ruthie leaves behind her daughters Tammy Pilot (Darren), Bobbi Pilawski (Darren), and Gloria Bardes (Christian); grandchildren Jennifer “Nicole” Thompson, Chad Smolen, Trent Thompson, Chase Bardes, and Haley Bardes; three great-grandchildren, Gracee Smolen, Knox Holguin, and Camden Thompson; and two step great-grandsons.
Ruthie will be remembered for her warmth, her strength, and the deep love she held for her family. She touched many lives with her kindness and steady presence, and her memory will be cherished by all who knew her.
In keeping with her wishes, there will be no services.
