Heberto Gamba's Obituary
Gamba, Heberto 79, of Tampa passed away on February 22, 2014. He is survived by his loving wife of 48 years Yolanda; daughter, Claudia; son, Carlos, daughter-in-law, Lissette, and four grandsons, Carlos, John Michael, Christian and Alexander. Heberto is also survived by four sisters, one brother and a large number of cousins, nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his mother and father and his son, John. He was born in Buga, Colombia, where he learned the automotive trade from his father and studied in vocational schools to further his expertise. He was a member of the Civil Defense in Colombia and served as a volunteer fireman for over 15 years as chief of the fire department. In 1974, he brought his family and entrepreneurial skills to Philadelphia, Pa, where he became a U.S. citizen and established his own automotive repair business. He moved with his family to the Tampa Bay area in 1989, reincarnating his business as "Gamba & Sons" with the help of his two growing sons. An avid car racer in his younger years, he was passionate about boxing, cars and mechanical objects, but above all he was passionate about his family. He loved his adopted country and the opportunities it afforded him, while always remaining loyal to his Colombian roots. A Catholic funeral service will be held 7pm, Tuesday, February 25th at the Boza & Roel Funeral Home located at 4730 N Armenia Avenue where the family will also receive friends from 5-8 pm.
