George Wesley King's Obituary
George King was born on March 14, 1928 in Chattanooga, Tennessee, and passed away at his home in Tampa, Florida on August 6, 2019. George was preceded in death just two months earlier by his loving wife of 69 years, Mary Louise Lawson King, as well as their eldest daughter, Alta Denise King Thomas, his brothers, Alfred ‘Nicky’ and Robert ‘Bobby’, and his sisters, Monyette, Johnetta, Mildred and Jean. He is survived by three of the couple’s four children, Raymond ‘Wesley’, Ernesta ‘Maatu‘ and Georgette ‘Candi’; his four grandchildren, Carlton, Kali, Daniel, and Jessica; and his three great grandchildren, Zoe, Kya and Kijani.
Celebrations of George’s life will include a Home-going Service on Saturday, August 17th, at Allen Temple AME Church, Tampa. On Sunday, August 18th a Celebration Of Love, honoring both George and Louise, will also be held in Tampa on what would have been the couple’s 70th Wedding Anniversary.
