Fr. Felix Sanchez's Obituary
We sadly report the unexpected passing of Father Felix Sanchez, age 73, Thursday, September 20, 2012, while visiting with family in Salamanca, Spain. He is survived by his sister Visitacion and three brothers - Manuel, his wife and children, Florentino, and Father Prudencio, who will celebrate his funeral Mass at 11 am Saturday in Salamanca. He will be buried at his birthplace, Majuges, Vitigudino. Please remember Father Sanchez and his family in your prayers. Born in Vitigudino, Spain, Father Sanchez was ordained in 1965 in Salamanca for the Vincentian Fathers. Before coming to the United States, Father Sanchez taught at the Vincentian Seminary in Spain and later at the college level in England. True to his Vincentian charism, he served as a chaplain for migrants in London. Father Sanchez' first assignment in Florida, beginning in September 1985,was ministry to two Spanish-speaking missions in Fort Myers. In 1991 he was assigned to St. Rita in Dade City, followed by St. Joseph Parish, Tampa in 1999 where he served as pastor until his retirement in July 2011. He continued to serve the Hispanic communities he loved so dearly including Our Lady of the Rosary and at St. Mark's. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated October 1, 2012, 11:30 am, at St. Joseph Church in Tampa. Bishop Robert Lynch will be the main celebrant. Priests wishing to concelebrate, please bring an alb and stole. A rosary will be said at 11:00 am, and a reception after the Mass will be held in the parish hall. "THANK YOU, Lord, for so much love, for the many blessings and happiness that you have provided me with every day of my life. It will always be my JOY to LOVE and SERVE You. And my answer to You will always be "YES, I will go" as it was on the very first day you called me to the priesthood. THANK YOU, Lord." On the occasion of his forty fifth anniversary to the sacred priesthood, June 25, 2010. Well done, good and faithful servant! Rest in Peace.
