Ernestine Fernandez Dodson's Obituary
Dodson, Ernestine Fernandez, 78, was called home in her sleep on April 23, 2025. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ernesto and Lynnette Fernandez. Born February 4 in Tampa, she dedicated her life to her family, nurturing young minds, and spreading knowledge with compassion and grace.
Mrs. Dodson graduated from Hillsborough High in 1965 and earned a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from the University of Tampa. Ernestine, a lifelong educator for Hillsborough County Public Schools, taught for an incredible 56 years, touching the lives of thousands of students and families across generations.
She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Allen, her daughter, Terrie Dodson-Caldevilla, and her son-in-law, Mark Caldevilla, as well as many extended family members and friends, who will continue her service, faith, and commitment to education.
A Memorial Mass to celebrate her life will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, May 1, 2025, at St. Lawrence Catholic Church. The family will receive friends at 9:30 a.m. at the church. At the family's request, guests are encouraged to wear bright, cheerful colors to celebrate Ernestine’s life. She brought light and joy to so many, and the family wishes to reflect that spirit during her services. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Villa Madonna School (online at villamadonnaschool.com ) in Mrs. Dodson’s memory.
