Elizabeth Maher was the best grandmother a girl could ever ask for!!! Family was always very important to grandma. I remember as a kid growing up, we would go over to her house after dinner and the adults would play cards and all us kids would play in the backyard. I remember Grandma went to every school program there was. I don't know how she kept everything straight there were so many of us. I guess that is part of the reason why she always called us by someone else's name. I am certainly going to miss that. I also remember when in elementary school, on snow cone Friday's when I would forget my quarter, I would tell the teacher I needed to use the bathroom and sneak off to where she always parked to pick us up from school. She would be sitting there reading. I could always count on her being there early. She would always give me a quarter, and then I would sneak back to class. Let's also not forget the time she was taking me to the dentist and we left early because she wanted to stop at Larry's Ice Cream Parlor first so we could have ice cream. I remember I was so nervous because I just knew the dentist was going to figure out that we had ice cream before we went to the appointment. She just smiled and said don't worry about it, it will be fine. The most important thing that she taught me, besides family comes first, is that you always pay your bills first, and what you have left over, is left over. If you have nothing, then at least your bills are paid. Whenever you walked into her house, she would not let you pass, I don't care how bad you had to pee, until you hugged her first. Now I walk into her house, and it is so quiet, and she isn't there blocking my passage for a hug. That is certainly one thing I will miss the most. My grandma loved everyone. She was funny, silly at times, loving, caring and a tad stubborn. She was my grandma.
