Elizabeth Joan Hickey's Obituary
Hickey, Elizabeth “Joan”, 62, of Tampa, FL died on April 10, 2016 of complications from early onset dementia. Joan was a lifetime parishioner of Christ the King Catholic Church, a dedicated member of the choir, and a devout Roman Catholic with an ardent love for the Blessed Mother.
Joan worked in many occupations and organizations in her life and was the owner and proprietor of Rent All of Tampa. She was an avid participant in the arts especially in the field of music, ballet and other forms of dance.
Joan is survived by her husband of 19 years Kevin Murray, father J.B. Hickey, mother, Betty Hickey, sisters Linda Bumgarner (Jim), Suzanne Runey (Randy) and Diane Durkee (Dan), brothers John Hickey, Jr., Michael Hickey and Patrick Hickey (Cecilia). She is also survived by many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and cousins.
To her family, friends and all who knew her, Joan was throughout her life always loving and lovable, playful, and extraordinarily beautiful in so many, many ways. Joan loved her family deeply, was a devoted daughter and sister, and loving aunt to all her nephews and nieces. She enjoyed nothing more than to spend time with her family and friends at the beach.
Joan loved the sea and was an accomplished and passionate sailor. And so a prayer for Joan from Walt Whitman and from us all:
“Sail forth!
Steer for the deep waters only,
Reckless, O my soul, exploring,
I with Thee and Thou with me,
For we are bound where mariner
Has yet not dared to go.
O daring joy, but safe!
Are they not all the seas of God?”
Of God.
The family will receive relatives and friends on Friday, April 15, 2016 from 9:30 to 10:15 AM and a Funeral Mass for the repose of Joan's soul will be celebrated at 10:30 AM at Christ the King Catholic Church. Interment will follow in Garden of Memories. Online condolences may be shared at www.bozaroel.com. In lieu of flowers, please support the Alzheimer’s Association at www.alz.org
