Mr. Elio Alonso's Obituary
Alonso, Elio 'The Chief,' 81, native of West Tampa passed away on July 8, 2008. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 58 years, Josephine Ann Alonso. He is survived by his son, Ramon Alonso and wife Pamela; daughter, Regina Ann Rubio and husband Mike; 2 grandchildren Alyssa Alonso and Aaron Rubio. He was the son of Ramon and Marcelina Alonso who owned La Gloria Restaurant, which fed hundreds of cigar makers from Garcia and Vega Cigar Factory. Elio was very proud of his Spanish Heritage and took great pride in telling stories about a childhood that was filled with happiness and love. His jokes and wittiness will be remembered and cherished by all who knew him. He was a WW II Naval veteran and later graduated from University of Florida class of 1951 from the College of Building Construction. He worked FHA for over 30 years and devoted a lot of time to youth baseball, loved to fish and was the handyman of the family. The family would like to thank Aida Gonzalez for her dedication in our various times of need, Norma Fernandez for being the sister Elio never had, and Joe Trumbach for being Elio's understudy in guiding our family. We would also like to thank all our cousins and friends for their thoughts and prayers. The family will receive friends for Visitation Friday, July 11, 2008 between 10- 11 am at Boza & Roel Funeral Home, 4730 North Armenia Avenue, Tampa. The family request the Entombment to remain private at the Centro Asturiano Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made in his memory to Lifepath Hospice Melech House 11125 North 56th Street, Temple Terrace, FL 33617.
