Edward Charles Evans' Obituary
Edward Charles Evans, of Tampa, Florida, passed away on January 29, 2025, at the age of 65. He was born on August 31, 1959, in Queens, New York, to Robert and Patricia Evans (McLaughlin).
Ed is survived by his loving wife, Maritza Rama. He was predeceased by his first wife, Nancy Evans (Maiorca) with whom he shared two daughters: Jessica Ann Huertas and Nikki Ann Conomos (Jordan). He also leaves behind three sisters—Laurene (Tim) Boyle, Kathleen (Patrick) Brennan, and Jeanette (Matthew) Brighton—as well as eight nieces and nephews.
Ed was a man who truly loved learning and sharing what he knew. He graduated from Mount St. Joseph's High School in Maryland and went on to earn degrees from St. Alphonsus Redemptorist College in Connecticut and Hunter College in New York. His strong Catholic faith shaped a life full of love, service, and compassion.
During his early career, he worked with the homeless in New York City. This continued as a lifelong passion for helping those in need. For 35 years, Ed worked as a grief counselor in hospice care, offering solace and strength to those facing their most difficult moments. His work was not just a profession—it was a calling, a deep commitment to walk with others through their pain, loss, and sorrow.
Ed generously contributed both his time and money to many causes he believed in - Project Rachel, Respect Life and many others. He was an active member of St. Lawrence Church, leading a weekly Bible study, joining a men’s group, and occasionally lending his voice to the church choir.
When he wasn’t busy with work or faith, Ed enjoyed reading and researching or being outdoors. He loved going to the beach and enjoyed snorkeling, windsurfing and sailing. His playful spirit brought happiness to those around him; you could often find him spontaneously singing and playing games. Ed will be fondly remembered for his warmth, kindness, and the joy of life he shared with others. Ed will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
A funeral service to celebrate Ed’s life will be held on Friday, March 14, at 11 a.m. at Boza & Roel Funeral Home, 4730 North Armenia Avenue Tampa, FL 33603. A small reception will be held after the service.
